Free access to the online Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection database was launched as a new APS member benefit in late April, and has been enthusiastically received by members. The psychology literature database, hosted by EBSCO, provides access to over 550 full-text journals across a broad range of titles, giving APS members access to the latest research published in their particular fields and supporting their continuing professional development.

At the time of going to print, the database had been visited over 2,400 times by APS members, which is a remarkable response within such a short amount of time and speaks to the need for this resource by members. The database access is being offered on a trial basis and its future beyond 2012 will be determined by the extent to which it is valued by members.

Members who have yet to try the database are encouraged to do so. To access the database and instructions on how to use it, click on the ‘Scientific literature resources for APS members’ tile on the home page of the APS website or follow the ‘Journals’ link under the ‘Publications and products’ menu.

Additional training opportunities will be available within the next few months to provide members with assistance in the more advanced capabilities of the database, such as customised automatic keyword and table of contents alerts. Members interested in hearing of these opportunities are encouraged to register their interest via email: pbsc@psychology.org.au .

 

 

Clinical Psychologist journal achieves ISI ranking

Clinical Psychologist, one of the APS journals published under the auspices of the Colleges and Interest Groups of the Society, has recently been accepted for inclusion in Thomson ISI’s Sciences Citation Index. This means the journal will now be indexed in Thomson Reuter's Journal Citation Reports, receiving an ISI ranking and an annual Impact Factor which are two of a number of indices reflecting the impact and esteem of the journal internationally. Clinical Psychologist now joins the APS journals Australian Journal of Psychology and Australian Psychologist in having an ISI ranking. The achievement represents the Society’s continuing commitment to the development and expansion of the published knowledge base that underpins the psychology discipline.
