Cool Kids with Complex Cases: An Advanced Workshop |
|---|---|
| Format | Workshop |
| Presenters | Presented by Dr Heidi Lyneham |
| Description | About the Workshop: In this workshop we will discuss child and adolescent anxiety cases who respond slowly, less than optimally, or possibly not at all within the context of the Cool Kids Program. Using insights from research findings and clinical acumen the workshop will investigate factors that might interfere with treatment and ways of maximizing response. Treatment adaptations, flexibility and common pitfalls will be highlighted. The majority of the workshop will allow interaction and discussion between participants in response to specific case examples. Participants are encouraged to bring case examples and these will be used as a focus of discussion. CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion and a certificate of attendance will be provided. Workshop Outcomes: At the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to: 1. Have a detailed understanding of the Cool Kids treatment program for the management of child and adolescent anxiety 2. Have a better appreciation for factors that may impact on response to treatment 3. Come away with ideas and strategies to maximise treatment response 4. Have an improved awareness of the limits of treatment Qualifications Required to Attend this Workshop: This workshop is restricted to Registered Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists and individuals with equivalent qualifications and experience. Presumed Knowledge: This is an advanced workshop and requires experience with use of the Cool Kids program, or experience in dealing with anxious children using a CBT framework. This workshop will not include basic training on the components of the Cool Kids Program or the underlying theoretical orientation. About the Presenter: NHMRC research fellow Dr Heidi Lyneham has published a substantial amount on the assessment and treatment of child and adolescent anxiety, with specific interests in improving access to services, adapting programs for special needs and enhancing links between maintaining factors and treatment. Heidi is a clinical psychologist, co-author of Helping Your Anxious Child and has had many years' experience implementing the Cool Kids Program in community and school settings. Course Materials: Please note that the workshop will assume prior experience with the Cool Kids Anxiety program or similar cognitive behavioural programs for child anxiety. Participants who do not have access to the Cool Kids Anxiety program are strongly advised to purchase one for use with their clients prior to this workshop. The Cool Kids program is suitable for working in community, hospital or private settings. A specific School Version is also available.
