Motivational Interviewing Intermediate
|Description||This one day advanced workshop is designed for individuals who have completed introductory training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), and have experience using MI in an applied setting. Participants will be offered the opportunity to further develop skillful use of MI in an interactive workshop using case examples and guided practice. Of particular focus will be developing skills for evoking change talk, eliciting and strengthening commitment to change, and recognising and managing client resistance. This workshop is appropriate for psychologists who are in the role of counselling clients to make and sustain healthy behaviour changes.
The workshop will cover the following learning objectives:
Review the MI framework and core skills in relation to participants' own examples of using MI in practice: What worked? What didn't work?
Introduce the eight tasks of learning MI
Provide opportunity to reinforce skills through observation and practice
Provide additional tools for reviewing progress in transferring learning to practice in the workplace.
