Interpersonal Psychotherapy:Advanced Experiential
|Description||Limited to 40 participants
This two-day Advanced Experiential training builds on the introductory training Interpersonal Psychotherapy: Basics and Beyond to extend participants' theoretical knowledge of IPT and its application in clinical practice. Limited to forty participants, this training meets the Australian Government Medicare Provider annual requirements for 10 hours of 'Focused psychological strategies' relevant training.
This training provides a rare opportunity for Australian practitioners to acquire a deeper understanding of the structure and application of IPT. It provides a dynamic learning environment to explore IPT skills in greater depth via role play practice, and case material relevant to daily clinical practice. There will be opportunities to ask relevant questions that relate to the challenges arising in the application of IPT in your clinical practice.
Participants are invited to send a 2-3 page case for discussion, and questions they want answered during the training.
Participants MUST have attended a previous introductory two-day training on Interpersonal Psychotherapy with Paul Rushton (or an equivalent two-day training).
PAUL RUSHTON is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice on the Gold Coast and Managing Director of PRA Consulting, a firm that specialises in psychological therapies and employee assistance. He has extensive experience in a range of areas including clinical psychology, injury management and public mental health. Paul has held adjunct academic appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Bond University, Lecturer at Griffith University (Gold Coast Campus) in Post-Graduate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Sessional Lecturer with the Medical School at the University of Queensland.
He is a member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society. Considered one of the foremost authorities in Australia on clinical training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Paul has conducted over fifty workshops on IPT in four different countries. He provides training workshops nationally and internationally, for organisations as diverse as the Australian Psychological Society and the Singapore Government. In 2004/5 he conducted an IPT workshop tour across Australia for the APS, and he repeated this for PsychOz Publications in 2007/8 when over 500 participants attended his workshops in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. He has trained psychologists and counsellors in IPT from Singapore Government departments over the last four years.
Paul has collaborated on research for IPT with post-traumatic stress disorder and chronic depression. He jointly developed the first Advanced Certificate of IPT in Australia, and has conducted Advanced CBT workshops for a number of organisations including the Australian Psychological Society. Paul is well known for his expertise in delivering practical trainings with a clinical focus that suit 'coalface' practitioners. ??While Paul is an authority on Interpersonal Psychotherapy, he embraces and values a diverse range of therapeutic approaches. This training will provide an overview of the theory, structure, and evidence base for IPT. Case studies, role plays, skill building exercises, small group discussions and question/answer sessions will be utilised to enhance participants' understanding of the application of IPT. Comprehensive handouts will accompany Powerpoint presentations.
