| Description | Overview Mindfulness, originally a construct used in Eastern spiritual and philosophical traditions, has found new utility in psychotherapy practice. It has been recently applied to treatments of several psychological and health related problems including trauma, and research is showing successful outcomes in psychological interventions incorporating mindfulness practices. In trauma presentations mindfulness has been effective in helping with affect regulation; attention; distress tolerance and; awareness of self talk. This experiential workshop will enhance practitioner's knowledge of the foundations of mindfulness and cultivate practice skills. Learning Outcomes Participants will: Develop an understanding of the practice of mindfulness and its relationship to the neurobiology of trauma Understand how to effectively utilise mindfulness to assist with post traumatic stress disorder and other premorbid trauma conditions Identify and develop evidence based mindfulness practice strategies for working with victims of trauma including: breath, body scan, thought and emotion viewing and integration Build a mindfulness approach that resources change and recovery Have fun! |
