Emotional Preparation for Parenthood

Description Preparing emotionally for parenthood improves Health and Wellbeing of the Parents and the Baby
I help normalise many feelings that we all have related to parenthood. I cover issues such as:
understanding the transition to parenthood
coping with losses related to parenthood
dealing with mother guilt
managing expectations versus the reality of parenthood
being assertive as a new mum or dad
creating awareness around how family relationships change when baby arrives
managing and optimizing psychological health
Mindful Parenting

The program is delivered to members of the public, midwives and psychologistsin the same forum. Suitable for more junior psychologists or those interested in what I am presenting as part of antenatal care at Freemason's hospital....a new initiative in antenatal education.

About the presenter(s) I am a Medical Doctor who completed my medical degree at the University of NSW in Sydney. I have always had an interest in mental health and after completing my internship, worked in acute psychiatry and community psychiatry
I am passionate about helping mums and dads prepare for parenthood on an emotional and psychological level.
Most antenatal preparation fails to provide new parents information on what life feels like when you are a new mum or dad. My program gives parents preparation and tools to help make the transition go more smoothly.
My telephone counselling role at the Post and Antenatal Depression Association (PANDA) gives me great insight at a grass roots level, to the emotional issues that new parents are dealing with. Hope to meet you soon,
