Imagery Rescripting & Reprocessing Therapy

Description IRRT is effective with a variety of presentations including PTSD, depression, and some other anxiety disorders.
Due to psychological and biological factors involved in the laying down of traumatic memories, IRRT acknowledges that for some survivors of trauma, words-based therapy alone is not enough. Utilising a range of verbal and non-verbal strategies, IRRT aims to replace schema and core beliefs damaged by the original trauma with a more adaptive set.

About this workshop
This course focuses on IRRT for survivors of childhood trauma, including child sexual abuse. Pre-course reading will be supplied

Learning Objectives
* an introduction to the history of IRRT
* Clinical issues surrounding PTSD (eg assessment,
differential diagnosis, characteristics of traumatic memory,
exposure-based CBT, proposed changes for DSM-V)
* Practical application of the 5 components of IRRT:
- Imaginal exposure
- Rescripting: Rescue
- Rescripting: Nurture
- Verbal processing
- Homework, including the use of anchoring
* Case report presentation - combining the 5 components of IRRT into an integrated whole.

Methods
Each of the above components will include a theoretical overview, practical demonstration, then skills practice, in which participants will be supervised working in pairs, learning & rehearsing each component of IRRT.
About the presenter(s) Rob McAlpine is a clinical psychologist who has extensive experience working with adults and adolescents. He has over 17 years experience working with IPT and IPT-A.
Rob also provides training and supervision in managing trauma using IRRT.
