Everyone is Looking at Me: Social Anxiety and its Treatment

Format Seminar/Presentation
Presenters Jill Cowan
Description Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for a plethora of psychological symptoms, one of the most disabling of these being social anxiety.

Social anxiety has one of the biggest impacts on our daily life because our life is largely made up of..dealing with people! Social anxiety exists not only in social situations, but also in work environments, shopping, exercising and even going to the hairdressers. These apparently simple tasks can appear mountainous tests of endurance if social anxiety is present.

There are ways to manage this potentially life limiting disorder. A combination of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Exposure therapy can make a difference. You may never WANT to take a banana on a lead for a walk, but it's really empowering if you know you can.
About the presenter(s) Jillian Cowan is the Director of the Melbourne Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Centre, and was formerly a Director of the Centre for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. She has been in private practice for over 25 years, and is one of the fortunate people who love what she does. Jillian has extensive training in CBT, and could not believe it when she discovered a therapy modality that fitted so well with her conceptualisation of how a psychologically healthy person thinks, feels and behaves. She is also a registered Hypnotherapist, and Child and Adolescent psychologist. Jillian was formerly a secondary school teacher. She lectures, runs workshops, and writes articles. She is particularly interested in Performance Anxiety and works extensively with clients in the sports and performing arts. She also works with clients who are suffering trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder and procrastination. Jillian enjoys using hypnosis to complement CBT.
