How to Assessing Trauma and Psychological Damage |
|---|---|
| Format | Workshop |
| Presenters | Dr Phil Watts |
| Description | We work with people who have often experienced psychological damage as a result of unfortunate life events. Often this damage is compensable so clinicians and forensic evaluators are required to write reports to assist the legal system. The report may be used for workers' compensation, criminal injuries, motor vehicle insurance, civil damages, or other types of redress schemes. This workshop is designed to provide a practical skills base of what is necessary for either a treatment report or independent evaluation. Key topics of this one-day workshop include:- Consider what constitutes trauma and psychological damage Know the difference between treatment reports vs legal assessments Understand what the legal profession needs from psychological reports Develop a structure for conducting assessments Consider factors related to response style and malingering Know the use, and limits, of psychological testing Review report writing relevant to compensation issues The assumption of this workshop is that the attendee has general clinical and therapy skills working with trauma but is seeking practical skills for the preparation of reports within this domain. This workshop can only address the general factors as the legislation and the operation of the different systems varies across the domains as well as the different States of Australia. The attendee will need to familiarise themselves with local processes and legislation to be an effective operator within these areas. |
