| Description | This seminar will enable participants to understand the psychological profile of clients with chronic pain, including key factors that affect assessment and treatment. Current knowledge about the neuroscience of pain will be covered. Evidence for the provision of such knowledge to clients about 'why pain persists' will be presented and how this is an essential step for the treatment of chronic pain is discussed. Resources for psychologists to use in their clinical practise will be discussed, as will strategies for therapist self-care. |
| About the presenter(s) | Dr Melissa Siu is a clinical and health psychologist who specialises in the treatment of chronic pain. Her clinical experience includes assessment and treatment of chronic pain, in both individual and group settings. Dr Siu also works in the assessment and treatment of co-morbid psychological disorders, including depression, anxiety, trauma and personality disorders (e.g., borderline and narcissistic). |
