| Description | This workshop will introduce participants to Narrative Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis (based on the book of that name by Rhodes and Jakes, 2009). The course will provide a brief introduction to the cognitive model of psychosis, and then will introduce participants to Narrative CBT as a treatment approach. Difficulties in engaging clients in psychological therapy and some of the techniques to deal with these difficulties will be discussed. Other topics will include focusing on solutions and goals, conceptualisation, schema focused work, dealing with childhood trauma and specific techniques for dealing with voices. |
| About the presenter(s) | Simon Jakes is employed as a senior clinical psychologist in south west Sydney. He qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1982 at the Institute of Psychiatry in London. Currently he is working in an acute unit for young people. He has been treating psychosis using CBT since the mid 1990s. He has regularly run workshops on CBT for psychosis for the health service, REMIND and the AACBT. |
