Branch Meeting No. 6 - Older Persons & Aged Care
|Presenters||Dr Leander Mitchell|
|Description||The Gold Coast Branch of the APS hosts regular Branch Meetings which are open to all APS members (and new branch members are particularly welcome).
This is an opportunity to meet your branch executive; hear about national and local events, activities and initiatives; express your opinions; meet and network with other psychologists; and to obtain CPD through provision of a 1-hour seminar of interest.
Seminar of Interest for Thursday, 1 November 2012:
"Older Persons and Aged Care"
|About the presenter(s)||Dr Leander Mitchell is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Psychologist, who has been involved in dementia care and ageing in a range of capacities over the past 4 years. These have included assessing people with dementia in the Royal Brisbane & Women's Hospital Memory Clinic, developing strategies to encourage independence as part of her postgraduate research project (under the supervision of Professor Nancy Pachana), and supporting both professional and family carers in managing the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia with the Dementia Behaviour Management Advisory Service.
Currently, Leander spends her time involving herself in clinical work, teaching, and research. She considers ageing along the continuum from successful ageing to decline as a result of such conditions as dementia, which sees her presenting on a variety of topics to a range of audiences.
Leander is the current convenor of the Psychology & Ageing Interest Group-Queensland branch and is also actively involved in the International Psychogeriatric Association.
