| Description | Motivational Interviewing (MI) This workshop introduces the strategies of "Motivational Interviewing", based on the internationally recognized work of Dr William Miller and Dr Stephen Rollnick. Originally developed to motivate clients with addictive behaviours, Motivational Interviewing is effective in facilitating client behaviour change in mental health, child welfare, health care, criminal justice and education. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centred counselling approach, grounded in a collaborative relationship between client and practitioner. MI emphasises the client's autonomy and maximises their intrinsic motivation to improve their lives. Using Prochaska's and DiClemente's Six Stages of Change as a framework, Motivational Interviewing identifies stage specific strategies for practitioners to reduce resistance, resolve ambivalence and help clients prepare and implement a change plan. |
