A panel of experts will be presenting a webinar on substance use and suicide risk. The three experts will cover topics including etiology, risk and protective factors, assessment and treatment considerations for ATAPS clinicians working with this population. While the webinar is open for all ATAPS providers, priority will be given to those providers who have completed the Suicide Prevention Training.
|About the presenter(s)||Professor Diego De Leo is the Director of the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention, and a Professor of Psychiatry at Griffith University. He is a member of the Australian Suicide Prevention Advisory Council, and Chair of the Advisory Committee on Data Quality and Evaluation. He is also the current Editor-in-Chief of the journal Crisis, and holds several national and international awards.
Lynne Magor-Blatch is an Associate Professor at the University of Canberra, and National Convener of the APS Psychology and Substance Use Interest Group. She has more than 36 years experience within the Alcohol and Other Drug field, in both the non-government and Government sectors.
David Kavanagh is a Professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Queensland, and Fellow Member of the APS. David is a member of several boards and committees, including Board of Wesley Research Institute. He is an Associate Editor of Addiction (a leading international journal in the field), Australian Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist. He served on NHMRC Project Grants Panels in 2003-2004, and regularly takes part in policy development by the Commonwealth and State health departments on the management of comorbid mental health and substance use disorders.
