Cognitive Therapy for Couple Relationships
Format Workshop
Presenters Greg Sorrell
Description Many clients regardless of why they seek help are impacted by relationship issues. This workshop is designed for psychologists and therapists who work with a variety of client presentations as well as for those who specialise in couples and families. Over the past three decades Greg has counselled many couples faced with a variety of challenges, within community-based family counselling agencies, at an in-patient setting and for the past eighteen years in his private practice.

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with a sound knowledge of:
 Cognitive Therapy methods for addressing communication difficulties, unhealthy conflict, unrealistic expectations and negative interacting patterns
 Four pillars of sound relationships and four major threats to relationships
 Common productive and unproductive relationship beliefs, rules, attitudes, assumptions and automatic thoughts
 Methods for identifying and modifying unhelpful self-talk in relationships
Research on predictors of future relationship difficulties and implications for treatment and early intervention / prevention
Several state-of-the-art DVDs covering couples in conflict are shown and essential couple counselling principles and interventions are presented and practised.
About the presenter(s) Greg is an experienced clinician who has worked with couples for the thirty years, in his own practice for the past eighteen. He also supervises therapists who work with couples and families.
