The Footprint of Trauma

Description This series of four lectures will provide an opportunity to reflect on the impact of trauma in the lives of our patients and the impact of vicarious trauma on the therapist. This series will have relevance to psychotherapists and other mental health professionals with varying levels of experience. The titles of the four lectures are: 'Trauma and Disconnection', 'Therapeutic Work with Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse' 'Psychotherapy with Refugee Survivors of Torture and Trauma at STARTTS' 'Vicarious Trauma for the Psychotherapist'. The lectures will be held on four consecutive Thursday nights in Glebe, Sydney, starting on Thursday 15 November 2012. Please see attached brochure for further details.
About the presenter(s) Prof Gill Straker is a Clinical Professor (Dept Psychiatry, University of Sydney) and a visiting Research Professor (Psychology University of Witwatersrand). She has published papers on trauma and psychotherapy both nationally and internationally. Jane Davidson is a Psychologist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who has specialised for over two decades in the field of trauma and sexual abuse. Robin Bowles is a Clinical Social Worker and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist who has specialised in working with refugee survivors of torture and trauma at STARTTS for over 23 years. Dr John Boots is a Training Analyst and a Child and Family Psychiatrist who has supervised many health professionals across all disciplines and has been a Consultant Visiting Medical Officer and Supervisor to a number of Child Protection Services in NSW and ACT. He has been a Consultant/Supervisor to the Child Protection Team at Westmead Children's Hospital for over 25 years. All four speakers are members of NSWIPP. Please see brochure for further details.
