Psychodynamic Therapy in everyday use |
|---|---|
| Format | Workshop |
| Presenters | Dr. Karen Weiss & Mr. Michael Green |
| Description | Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and thinking is a way of viewing the therapy, the therapist and the patient as a dynamic system that creates meaning and function. This creative element requires the therapist to be fundamentally present to their own emotional experience within a relationship that provides a space for healing and recovery. This one day workshop will assist the Psychologist who wants to work in more depth with their clients even when the intervention is short term. The day will be spent on both theory and case analysis with an emphasis on participant enquiry. This workshop will be suitable for those participants who have minimal exposure to psychodynamic psychotherapies or those who would like a refresher in their learning. |
| About the presenter(s) | Dr. Karen Weiss is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Melbourne. Karen has 25 years clinical experience with a specialisation in relationship work and systemic approaches. She regularly supervises other Psychologists particularly within a systemic and psychodynamic frame. From her early training, Karen has been steeped in utilising a contextual and family of origin analysis for case conceptualisation. She has translated this into a working model that also integrates the emotional experience of the therapeutic relationship to inform her work. Mr. Michael Green (Principal Psychologist) has been a Psychotherapist for over 20 years and is a recent Clinical Psychology graduate. He has expertise in psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness, and experiential therapies. As well as his clinical practice, he has recently been engaged in a research program based at the Glen Nevis Clinic for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. His work there over the past three years has focussed upon factors relevant to patient engagement and the therapeutic alliance. |
