ACT Two-Day Introductory Workshop (ACT Training: Part 1)
|Presenters||Dr Russ Harris|
|Description||'Mindfulness' is a hot topic in Western psychology - increasingly recognised as an effective way to reduce stress, increase self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence, and undermine destructive emotive, cognitive, and behavioural processes.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a powerful mindfulness-based therapy with empirical support in a wide range of disorders, from anxiety, depression and PTSD, to chronic pain, anorexia and substance abuse. Effective with individuals, couples and groups, ACT helps clients to live in the present moment, connect with their values, access a transcendent sense of self, and effectively handle painful thoughts, feelings, memories, sensations and urges.
ACT is very efficient. In one published study, hospital re-admission rates for chronic schizophrenic patients were reduced by 50%, with only 4 hours of therapy! Other published studies have shown that ACT training increases therapist effectiveness and reduces burnout.
Dr Russell Harris, medical practitioner and psychotherapist, is the foremost provider of ACT training in Australia. His highly-acclaimed workshops will give you a solid foundation in ACT, and a variety of powerful and effective new tools for therapy. Those very same tools can help you reduce stress and burnout, and increase work satisfaction. Indeed, many participants report profound positive life changes following a workshop.
The workshop includes extensive support materials, including a copy of Russ's best-selling ACT-based self-help book, 'The Happiness Trap', a CD recording of key mindfulness skills, over 50 pages of notes and handouts, online access to a multitude of free electronic resources, and ongoing support via email.
In this workshop, you will learn:

|Notes||Dr Russ Harris, M.B.B.S., M.A.C. Psych. Med. Russ qualified as a doctor in 1989 in the UK, migrated to Australia in 1991, and set up practice as a GP in Melbourne. He became increasingly interested in the psychological aspects of medical illness which ultimately led to a career change, and he now works in two different, yet complementary roles: both as a therapist and as a coach. When he discovered Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, he was so deeply impressed that he promptly went to the U.S.A. to train with its creators, Steve Hayes and Kelly Wilson. Since then, he has been back repeatedly for advanced training, and is now not only a fully-accredited ACT trainer, but has also become internationally acclaimed for his capacity to teach and train this model, and make it accessible to all. (His textbook, "ACT Made Simple", will be published in November 2009.) Russ travels all around Australia, and internationally, providing workshops and training in ACT for a wide variety of health profess|
