| Description | This presentation, to be preceded by complimentary canapes, is the launch of the APS online training program in the basic principles of conducting a private practice. While it focuses on the basic essentials that a practitioner needs to engage with to establish or run a private practice, it also has the capacity to enable already practising psychologists to review and enhance their present practice. There are eight modules in the online elearning program and each module takes around two hours to complete. It is very practically based involving a workbook, online and library resources and has many participant exercises as well as an assessment component. It is based on adult education principles and while providing considerable useful content, also emphasises the acquisition of additional knowledge and skills and has considerable practical application. The eight modules are as follows: Before Starting Out: including critical personal and professional considerations Initial Business Plans: including business planning, swot analysis, tax and licences Immediate Practical Actions: including location, administration and accounting, insurances, registering for various aspects Consolidating Actions: including client management, appointment management and practice administration Marketing and Communication: including strategic planning, research, promotional activities and materials Day-To-Day Considerations: including self-care, managing danger, ethical dilemmas, practice contingency plans Expanding Your Practice: including recruitment of staff and alternative revenue OH&S Selling Your Practice: including evaluation, communication, records management The online training complements the APS publication "Setting up Private Practice http://www.psychology.org.au/Assets/Files/Setting-up-private-practice.pdf and the APS Professional Practice Management Standards Self-Assessment Instrument http://www.psychology.org.au/practitioner/essential/PPMS/ |
