This 2-hours course gives a brief overview of the past forced adoption policies and practices in Australia and guidance on delivering effective care for people affected by forced adoption.

This course is funded by The Department of Health designed to support GPs who are currently working or plan to work with people affected by forced adoption.

General practitioners can claim Continued Professional Development (CPD) points by completing this course.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, participants will have:

  1. Improved understanding about how to deliver effective care for people affected by past forced adoption experiences
  2. Increased awareness of the key considerations for identifying and working with people affected by past forced adoption experiences
  3. Improved understanding of how to build and maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients affected by past forced adoption experiences, including appropriate referral processes.

Course modules

  • Understanding past forced adoption policies and practices (1 hr)
  • A clinical framework for working with individuals – training for GPs (1 hr)
