Working with Psychosis - Using a recovery framework and strategies for symptoms - Practical Approaches for the Non-Specialist

In Part 1, this workshop will introduce the "personal recovery" framework for mental health service provision and how it can help psychologists explore the key tasks faced by clients living with a psychotic disorder.

In Part 2, the workshop explore the dilemmas around if and how to work directly with persisting psychotic symptoms by applying key concepts from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. We can discuss your case dilemmas if participants wish.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this presentation you will:

  • A better understanding of the personal recovery framework for clients living with a psychotic disorder
  • Be able to apply key Acceptance & Commitment Therapy concepts with Clients with psychotic symptoms.

About the presenter(s)

John Farhall is an experienced clinical psychologist and researcher whose work focuses on psychotic disorders and their psychological treatments. He is an Associate Professor in Clinical Psychology in the School of Psychology and Public Health at La Trobe University and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at North Western Mental Health. He has authored more than 100 publications and been a chief investigator on large clinical trials of CBT, ACT and Digital Interventions for Psychosis.
