This Breakfast Seminar will present a brief overview of the previous Mental Health Act (2000) and the reason for developing the new Act.
The new Mental Health Act (2016) will be explained with a focus on how the Act can be used to provide an avenue to have people's mental health assessed and examined.
A light breakfast will be provided.
- an increased knowledge of the new mental health act and possible increased ability to support clients who may be effected by this ACT.
About the presenter(s)
Kirin Brown graduated from JCU Cairns in 2005 and completed the 4+2 SPP while working in the Cairns Integrated Community Mental Health Service. Kirin has experience working across the breadth of public mental health services, including case management, court liaison, and assessment and crisis intervention. During this time he has gained a strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (2000) and has been involved in the roll-out of the new Mental Health Act (2016). He completed a Master of Psychology (Clinical) in 2016 and is currently undertaking the Clinical Registrar program.
