Workshop Details:

Illustrating the concepts with case examples and video extracts, this workshop ex-plores an approach to relationship counselling which integrates Neurobiology with Psychodynamic, Systemic and Integrated Behavioural Marital theories.

The presenter also shares ideas about working with the couple relationship when only one partner is present. The approach taken combines formal presentation with DVD demonstrations and case examples. There will be opportunities for participants to ask questions, make comments from their own experience

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this workshop participants will be able to:

• Develop their thinking about problematic couple dynamics from an integrated theoretical perspective

• Understand the implications of recent neuroscientific discoveries for couples therapy 

• Appreciate the challenges involved in working with couple difficulties when only one partner is present.

About the presenter(s)

Penny Evans is a Couples Therapist of 30 years experience with a background in family therapy. For 17 years she was Professional Education Manager at Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV), where she helped develop and managed the Specialist Course in Couples Therapy, as well as the post-course Internship and other couples counselling training programs. She also co-coordinated the Masters course in Couples and Relationship Counselling, which RAV conducted in partnership with The Bouverie Centre (Latrobe University). While Penny is now in private practice providing couple counselling and clinical supervision, she continues to teach at RAV, The Bouverie Centre and Swinburne University.
