Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a persistent problem that frequently interferes with a child's family, academic and social functioning and predisposes the child to behavioural, emotional and social problems in adult life. In recent years, advances in the neurobiology, psychology and genetics of ADHD have led to a fuller understanding of the disorder, with the emergence of new practices in its identification and mangement. This workshop summarises recent developments in research and practice in this field and explores the development and implementation of effective interventions for children with ADHD, and is designed to help particpants undersand contemporary theoretical and empirical perspectives on ADHD, undertake a detailed assessment of children and adolescents suspected of having ADHD and design, implement and evaluate interventions for children and adolescents with ADHD.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • understand contemporary theoretical and empirical perspectives on ADHD
  • undertake a detailed assessment of children and adolescents suspected of having ADHD
  • design, implement and evaluate interventions for children and adolescents with ADHD

About the presenter(s)

Associate Professor Tim Hannan is the Head of the School of Psychology at Charles Sturt University, where his teaching interests are in the areas of clinical psychology, educational psychology, clinical and forensic neuropsychology, psychological assessment, and sport psychology. He was the Project Director for the 2003-06 Australian Standardisation Projects for the WISC-IV, WIAT-II and CELF-4.
Tim has completed postgraduate degrees in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, cognitive science, and sport psychology. He has served terms as the National and NSW Chair of the APS College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists (2003-2005), and served as APS President from 2012-2014.
