Group Process and Group Supervision Skills

This workshop includes a review of the group process literature and guides participants through a range of experiential exercises that demonstrate implementation of group process ideas and specific application to the group supervision context. Self-reflection exercises further deepen understanding of group processes during the workshop.  Structures to support effective peer group supervision are discussed.

The workshop will comprise of:

• identification of the participants background, experience and learning needs

• evidence-based and practice-informed principles of group process

• implementation and application of those principles to the supervision context

• utilisation of self-reflection to deepen understanding of group processes

• case examples for active working through in large and small groups

Prerequisite requirements 

Master Class, Part 4 is only available to psychologists who are already Board approved supervisors (principal or secondary). Psychologists who do not meet this criterion should not apply. Applicants’ general registration status, date of first registration, area/s of endorsement, and existence of conditions, undertakings or reprimands will be verified independently against data available on the Board’s Register of Practitioners and their Board approved supervisor status will be verified against the Board’s list of approved supervisors. The APS Institute will notify the Board if there is a discrepancy between information regarding eligibility that has been provided by the enrolee and information contained on the Register of Practitioners.

About the presenter(s)

Mark Donovan
Mark is a registered psychologist with an endorsement in clinical psychology. Mark has had extensive experience as a clinical supervisor in the UK and Australia as well as expertise in curriculum design and delivery of supervisor workshops to other qualified clinical psychologists across a range of topics including constructive criticism, managing placement difficulties, power in supervision, ethical issues in supervision, reflective practice, feedback, and challenge in supervision. He currently holds the position of clinical supervision coordinator at the University of Wollongong.
Matthew Berry
Matthew is a clinical psychologist who specialises in working with addiction, and has had roles in public and private treatment services. He was principal author of a report for Victorian State Government’s review of forensic AOD services, and has developed or evaluated many different programs in the substance use treatment sector. He has more than 12 years’ experience as a workshop trainer having presented more than 100 workshops focussing on addictions, motivation to change, supervision skills, and psychological well-being. He now works in private practice in Melbourne with a mixed clinical and supervision caseload.
