The Victorian College of Health Psychologists Annual Networking Dinner

Event number: 18818
Social Event
Presenter(s): Associate Professor Rosemary Higgins

The APS College of Health Psychologists Victorian section warmly invites all psychologists to join us for the annual networking dinner with presentation by Associate Professor Rosemary Higgins, entitled “Psychocardiology: From Research to Practice”.

For many, diagnosis with heart disease challenges perceptions of immortality and fairness. It is not surprising that almost all patients experience distress in reaction to diagnosis and treatment. Poor psychological adjustment is related to worse disease outcomes, poorer quality of life and increased suffering for patients and their families. Psychological support needs to address adjustment and existential issues but also disease management and lifestyle change to enhance long term as well as short term outcomes. Rosemary will discuss her extensive research in this area as well as the translation of this research in to training, patient and health professional resources and programs.
