Clinical Applications of Narrative Therapy

Event number: 18820
6.5 CPD hours
Presenter(s): Michelle Taylor

This workshop will provide you with an introduction into Narrative Therapy and how it can be used in clinical practice.

Narrative Therapy is a way of working with people that invites them to tell the stories of their lives, allows them to recognise contradictory experiences within these stories and as a result encourages them to explore alternative experiences to their subjective existence.  Narrative Therapy uses conversations to re-author the stories of people’s lives and seeks to be a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling and community work.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this workshop, particiapnts will have:

  • An understanding of the key concepts of Narrative Therapy.
  • Skills in developing alternative stories for clients, including the use of externalising conversations, re-autoring conversations, outsider witness processes and therapeutic letters.
  • Experiential learning with opportunities for small group role plays and practice of clinical concepts.

Resources and examples of the work in case studies and examples of therapeutic letters will be provided throughout the workshop.
