The Breath Body Mind Program

Event number: 18844
1.5 CPD hours
Presenter(s): Dr Lisa Ciechomski & Lynne McLennan

The Breath Body Mind (BBM) program was developed by two integrative psychiatrists from the U.S.A., Drs Richard Brown and Patricia Gerbarg. BBM is an evidence based program that has been produced significant results for participants who have experienced stressful life events, including military veterans and survivors of mass disasters such as the Asia tsunami and 9/11.

The BBM program includes qigong, breathing exercises and a body scan meditation. Mind-body practices, particularly simple yoga breathing, provide a safe and effective way to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Mind-body practices also increase heart rate variability (HRV). A higher HRV is associated with a more balanced stress response system.

Dr Lisa Ciechomski and Lynne McLennan from UFS Medical trained with Drs Brown and Gerbarg in the U.S.A in 2015 and began running a six week BBM program for the general public in 2016. Many participants had chronic pain and anxiety. The feedback was very positive.

In this evening social and CPD event you will:

  • Be informed of some of the recent research on HRV and mind-body practices for people with PTSD and other health problems.
