Course Structure & Dates:

There are three components for this course.

  • Component One (Knowledge Assessment) – this is an online course and comprises of guided reading and quizzes related to readings.

Note: the participant must have completed this before commencing Component 2, access will be provided once registered.

  • Component Two (Skills Training Workshop) – The training includes a two-day face-to-face skills training workshop covering topics such as professional and ethical requirements, theories of supervision, supervisory roles and alliance and assessment and feedback. Training is provided by board approved supervisors and trainers. The workshop is interactive and includes group discussions, case studies, role-plays and brief assessment.

To be held: 9-10 February 2018, 9.30am-4.30pm

  • Component Three (Assessment and Evaluation) – The third and final part of supervisor training involves a systematic assessment of the psychologist demonstrating their supervisory competencies (including the seven competencies mentioned in the guidelines). Submission of a video recording of a supervision session and an accompanying reflective piece that is assessed by a board approved supervision trainer. This must be completed within but not exceeding a period of 3 months since successfully completing component 2.

This program is designed to:

  • Identify the competencies to be developed in supervisees
  • Assess their competence in supervision
  • Have increased knowledge and skills in the competency based model of supervision

Prof Kathryn Von Treuer from the Cairnmillar Institute, a Psychology Board of Australia-approved Supervisor training provider delivering all components of the full supervisor training to registered psychologists.

Notes

Psychologists are eligible to enrol if:

Registered for a period of two years, or, have held an area of practice endorsement for at least two years, and wish to become supervisors of Higher Degree students and supervisors of registrars seeking an area of practice endorsement.
