NSW COCP AGM & Presentation

Event number: 19215
2 CPD hours
Meeting
Presenter(s): Martha Tabour

Martha is the Director of The Homicide Victim's Support Group (Aust) Inc. This group was founded by the parents of Anita Cobby and Ebony Simpson in June 1993. The group provides counselling and support for family members who have been affected by homicide.

Among the most traumatised when a loved one is murdered are children and young adults left behind. Experience has shown us that the needs of children are often overlooked or underestimated in the initial upheaval following the crime.

Martha will talk about Grace's Place a world first residential trauma recovery centre and operated by the HVSG. The primary purpose is to provide a unique place of therapy healing, in a safe environment to provide respite and support.

Martha will give some ideas as to how interested psychologists can support their work.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply knowledge of the Homicide Victims Support Group when dealing with Victims of Crime
  • Identify and understand the role of the psychologist in providing support to victims.
