Exposure Treatment for PTSD

Event number: 19288
3.5 CPD hours
Presenter(s): Professor Mark Creamer

There is international consensus that trauma focused psychological interventions are the treatment of choice for PTSD and, of these, exposure has the strongest body of empirical support. This workshop will provide participants with an overview of the skills required to implement exposure in their clinical practice, as well as potential pitfalls and challenges. There will be frequent use of video examples and opportunity for audience participation and discussion.

This workshop is designed for experienced mental health clinicians who may work with survivors of trauma suffering from PTSD and related conditions, and who wish to learn how to conduct prolonged exposure with this population

Learning Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

1. Have attained a good understanding of the theory, mechanism and practice of prolonged imaginal exposure in treating PTSD

2. Have developed skills to implement prolonged exposure treatment for PTSD (with appropriate supervision) and

3. Be aware of the likely stumbling blocks in exposure treatment and how to address them in clinical practice
