About the presenter(s)

Dr Martha Kent has been working as a Clinical Psychiatrist in Public and Private Practice for the last 30 years. Her interests have focussed around Women’s Psychiatry in general and Psychotherapy in particular. Over the years she has worked variously in the areas of child and adult sexual trauma, perinatal Psychiatry, the menopause and more recently BPD.
Together with Margaret Hartstone she ran the first DBT group in Adelaide. She teaches DBT to Psychiatrists. She has engaged in BPD service assessments and authored reports at the individual, local, State and National levels. She was Chair of the Clinical Network BPD Service evaluation and lead author of that report (with recommendations), which was ultimately published by SA Health in 2014. She has been Keynote Speaker at annual BPD Awareness Conferences.
Increasingly over the years, as she continued her Clinical Practice, she has been actively engaged in political lobbying and advocacy for improved BPD services in this State and nationally. She currently is Chair of the SA Branch of the BPD Foundation, Patron of Sanctuary and was instrumental in the development of the Mental Health Professionals Network in SA around BPD and conducts workshops annually in that context.
In 2017 she was awarded an OAM for services to Mental Health and in particular, BPD.
She contemplated retirement from Clinical Practice at the end of 2016, but is now planning to engage in Locum Psychiatry in remote Australia.
