PsyBA Master class: Building supervisee skills in self-evaluation and reflective practice

Event number: 19322
6.5 CPD hours
APS Institute CPD

This PsyBA-approved supervisor training Master class will address the principles, frameworks/models and skills of reflective practice in supervision and strategies to build supervisee skills of self-evaluation and reflection. The workshop discussions will differentiate reflective supervision from more typical expert consultant/problem solving supervision. It will also reflect upon different supervision inputs, such as giving and receiving feedback, and applying reflective practice to personal, ethical and professional issues, in the supervisory relationship and the supervisee’s practice. Participants will learn and explore ways in which they can apply reflective practice and relationship skills with the supervisee in the planning, implementation and evaluation of supervision programs. Taking an experiential learning approach and working in small groups, participants will have the opportunity to discuss, role-play and receive feedback and support from their peers to build their confidence and skill in the management of scenarios and issues in supervision that they will be invited to bring with them to the workshop.

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
- Demonstrate skills in reflective practice in a supervision setting
- Demonstrate skills in enhancing supervisees’ reflective practice skills for learning and self-assessment
- Demonstrate skills in conducting difficult conversations with supervisees - Outline how reflective practice fits into competency-based supervision
- Identify peer support networks with other supervisors
