This workshop is designed to inform practicing psychologists of the mechanisms of action and use for
psychopharmacological agents.

The morning session focuses on a revision of neurobiological principles which is then used as a foundation for the understanding of the hypothesised mechanisms of action of different medications.

The afternoon session focuses on examination of the range of different medications used in psychiatry, with a focus on those agents most commonly encountered by psychologists in therapeutic practice (antidepressants, anxiolytics, and antipsychotics).

Biography:
Dr Mark Boschen is a lecturer in clinical psychology at Griffith University, and also maintains a small clinical practice in Brisbane, Queensland. Mark specialises in assessment and treatment of adult anxiety disorders, with a focus on obsessive compulsive disorder. Mark has been a regular presenter for the APS, conducting workshops in psychopharmacology, cognitive behaviour therapy, and clinical case formulation. Mark's recent research publications include works looking at treatment resistant OCD and factors which reduce relapse in successfully treated anxiety disorders.
