Perinatal in Practice

Format Workshop
Description This workshop aims to introduce psychologists, GPs, counsellors and mental health professionals to the current understanding of perinatal mood disorders and their management, using lecture, case studies and interactive exercises. It explores the diagnosis of perinatal mood disorders and the common psychosocial stressors affecting new parents, introduces screening tools used to identify women at risk in the perinatal period, and assesses the impact of perinatal mood disorders for the mother, her baby and her partner. The workshop will also cover the risk benefit approach to the use of antidepressant medication in the perinatal period and how to develop a comprehensive management plan for women with a perinatal mood disorder.
