Metacognitive Therapy: Made simple |
|---|---|
| Format | Workshop |
| Presenters | Dr Clare Rees |
Description
|
Metacognitive Therapy is an interesting an important development in the treatment of many psychological disorders but it certainly isn't an easy therapy to grasp. It is a refreshing and alternative way of working with clients and is showing great outcomes for many different presenting problems. However, some of the terminology can be confusing and overlaps with similar terms we associate with different therapeutic approaches and it is tricky to know how to stay true to MCT without drifting back to other more conventional approaches whilst in session. This full-day workshop will attempt to provide clinicians with greater clarity regarding MCT and will start by putting Metacognitive Therapy into context (how did it develop, when did it develop and on the basis of what evidence?). We will look at how MCT differs from CBT and how to best determine when to apply MCT with clients. Participants who attend this workshop will have: - An opportunity to learn how MCT developed and on what basis - An opportunity to learn about the current evidence for this treatment - An opportunity to learn the specific central techniques of MCT and to compare and contrast these with CBT - An opportunity to practice some of the key techniques during the workshop - An opportunity to find out about current resources (books, articles) relevant to using MCT in your practice |
