CBT treatment of Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)FULLY BOOKED
|
|---|---|
| Format | Workshop |
| Presenters | Dr Sarah Edelman |
Description
|
In the last decade there has been a significant transformation in mainstream treatments for generalised anxiety disorder. As our understanding of the disorder and the processes that maintain it have grown, many conventional therapies (including relaxation, disputing, problem solving and time management) have given way to new, more innovative treatments. Many of these focus on cognitive processes rather than content of thoughts. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to describe contemporary CBT models of Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and will be able to administer treatments that target the key features of the disorder. These will include case formulation, worry awareness training, meta-cognitive therapy, mindfulness techniques, imagery exposure and behavioural experiments. The workshop will focus on practical skills development. Treatments will be demonstrated using case studies and participants will have the opportunity to raise examples from their own clinical experience. In addition to workshop slides, participants will receive a number of prepared handouts for use with clients who have generalised anxiety disorder. |
