A College Award of Distinction is to recognise the importance and significance of an individual's contribution to their specialist field. This Award is for significant contributions to the College over a number of years and is to be awarded only where there is a candidate of exceptional merit. The maximum number of awards will be one each calendar year per College.
The Award & Eligibility
A College Award of Distinction recipient will:
- receive a certificate
- have their name placed on a web-based college "roll of honour"
To be eligible to receive the award an individual must:
- be a financial member of the APS
- have been a member of the College for a minimum of 10 years,
- have been active in the affairs of the College throughout most of this time, both by holding office(s) in the College and by participation in College activities, and
- have made a significant and long term contribution to the area of the discipline and practice of psychology covered by the College through one or more of the following:
- by contributing significantly to teaching, research and publications in the area of the College specialty,
- by contributing significantly to the training and development of psychologists prior to and/or after gaining College membership
- by contributing significantly to the practice of the College specialty.
Nomination Process

Nominations must be supported by a proposer and seconder. The individual can propose themselves and be seconded by another full College member who is a member of the relevant College. Alternatively, an individual can be proposed and seconded by other full College members of the relevant College.
- Each nomination must include the names of two referees at least one of which must be a member of the College, who have indicated their willingness to support the nomination.
Administration of the Awards
The College will submit candidates for the Directorate of Professional Practice Advisory Group (DPPAG) to make a final determination before making a recommendation to the Board of Directors. The DPPAG Committee will appoint a sub-committee to consider nominations and make recommendations to DPPAG.
The maximum number of Awards approved by the Board of Directors will be one each calendar year per College.
