This prize is intended to honour the contribution made by Emeritus Professor Alastair Heron to the Australian Psychological Society and to the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.

It has been established to encourage and reward clinical psychologists for work in the area of adult ageing. As the population ages, there is a growing need to understand the processes and sequelae of human ageing and to develop appropriate therapies for psychological problems among older people.

Criteria for the prize

This prize will be awarded to a Member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists for applied research of exceptional quality in the area of normal adult ageing or age-related dementias; or for excellence in the psychological treatment of problems among older people. Preference will be given to research on non-Alzheimer disorders.

The work of the recipient will comprise a significant contribution to the current field of knowledge in human ageing or in psychology therapy among older people.

Nominations must include a brief report from a proposer and seconder, both of whom should be Clinical Psychologists, supporting the nomination and giving details of the candidate’s suitability. Nominations will be called for every second year.
