Cessation of APS endorsement of CPD events

The decision to cease APS endorsement of CPD events was taken by the APS Board of Directors earlier this year and was reconfirmed in the most recent Board meeting following consideration of some concerns raised about the decision by those affected. One of the main considerations upon which the Board based its decision was that CPD is now a mandatory requirement under the new national registration scheme, and, although the Psychology Board does not endorse CPD events itself, it may not necessarily recognise endorsement by other bodies in assessing an individual’s compliance with CPD requirements. Therefore, although the Board appreciates that APS endorsement of CPD events has been of benefit to CPD providers and consumers, the Board judged that the endorsement process poses risks to the APS, particularly in how the status of an endorsed CPD event may be interpreted by consumers. The APS will, however, continue to facilitate the offering of CPD activities, organised by the National Office as well as offered through APS member groups.

Transition phase extended to 31 October 2012 for all providers

Applicants have been previously advised that the APS would cease accepting applications for endorsement of CPD events after 31 October 2011. This meant that those who received an annual licence from this date would be able to deliver APS-endorsed CPD events until 31 October 2012. In order to provide equitable arrangements for all CPD providers, the transition arrangements have now been modified to enable applications to be made beyond 31 October 2011 for endorsement of single and multiple CPD events that will be run no later than 31 October 2012.

The transition phase fee structure for applications for endorsement is as follows:

Single-event endorsement (e.g., one workshop that can be run multiple times)

Multiple-event endorsement (two or more workshops that can be run multiple times)

Please note: APS Members can accrue Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours by participating in CPD activities that they determine to be relevant to their individual professional skills, learning plans and goals. These may be self-initiated. CPD activities do not need to be endorsed by the APS.

Please note that the provider’s advertisement MUST NOT contain:

Any reference to APS CPD hours unless the advertiser has received formal notification that the activity has been endorsed by the APS for CPD hours (e.g., ‘CPD hours pending’; ‘CPD hours applied for’ must not be used in an advertisement).
