To join the APS

Membership Recruitment Campaign: May 2008 - January 2009

The Australian Psychological Society now has approximately 16,500 members. To maintain our strong voice for psychology, we need to ensure that our membership continues to represent a high proportion of psychologists.

As an incentive to increase the membership of the Society, from now until 31 January 2009 the Society will give a $50 APS PD voucher to an Associate Member or Member of the Society for each person they recruit as an Associate Member or Member.

The Society will also give a $50 APS PD Voucher to all those people elected to the grade of Associate Member or Member in the same time period.

To be eligible for the voucher, you need to download the Membership Recruitment form below and attach a completed version to the Member or Associate Member application form. 

We have included a booklet in your 2008-09 membership renewal package which lists many of the benefits and services of membership with the APS. You might like to show the booklet to non-APS psychologists as a way of encouraging them to join.

As this campaign runs until 31 January 2009, it allows you to recruit fourth year graduates at the end of the year.

Summary
  • You must be an Associate Member or Member to be eligible to receive the $50 APS PD voucher.
  • You will be sent one $50 APS PD voucher for each person you recruit to the Society who is elected to the grade of Associate Member or Member until 31 January, 2009.
  • There is no limit to the number of vouchers you may receive.
  • There is no limit to the number of vouchers you may use at any one APS PD event.
  • The PD voucher is valid until 31 May 2009.
  • Yes! You could go to the 2008 APS annual conference in Hobart for no charge if you recruit enough members.

Next, fill out and send in the appropriate application form, with supporting documentation, to the APS National Office, PO Box 38, Flinders Lane PO, Melbourne, Vic 8009.

Once you are a member, you will automatically be allocated to your local Branch or Regional Group, and can also join APS Colleges or Interest Groups, subject to meeting the joining requirements. Find out more about APS Member Groups

Non-standard route to the grade of Member

Reinstatement for ex-members

Ex-members who are seeking to re-join the APS should complete the Membership Reinstatement form - Acrobat icon - small (91kb). Please note that if your membership has lapsed for more than 10 years, you will need to reapply for membership using the application form for the relevant grade, and submitting all documentation requested.

Annual subscription

APS membership expires annually on 31 May. If you are a new member and join during the year, pro rata rates are payable. Subscription reminders are sent to all existing members in May each year, with payment due no later than 31 July in order to maintain current membership.

A note on supervision

The supervision pathway to full Membership of the APS ceased on 31 December 2001. Supervised psychological practice had to have been completed by 31 December 1999, unless applicants were granted a special exemption up until 31 December 2001. Supervision still forms part of the requirements for State and Territory psychology registration. View contact details of your local registration board.
