The Professional Practice Handbook contains information and perspectives on a wide range of issues, mainly generic context issues concerning or affecting the profession. It is intended to help promote high-quality professional practice in psychology, enhance members’ professionalism, including their professional risk-management, and promote good business management and staff employment practices. It is also designed to be an academic resource for post-graduate professional training.

The Professional Practice Handbook is designed for:

  • Psychologists who are commencing professional practice, in either public sector or private practice contexts.
  • Psychologists who have been in professional practice for some time and wish to keep up-to-date with changes and recent developments in practice matters.
  • Psychologists who are managing other psychologists in either public sector contexts (e.g. senior psychologists in government mental health services, or university heads of psychology departments) or in private practices, and their psychologist staff.
  • Postgraduate psychology students undertaking professional studies or placements.

It is not designed to provide information to psychologists living overseas or recently arrived in Australia, about Australian employment opportunities and conditions in psychology. Go to the Study & Careers section for information on these topics.
