KidsMatter and headspace: two new Australian Government-funded child and youth mental health initiatives for which the APS is a development partner.
KidsMatter is a national mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative for primary schools, which aims to strengthen children's mental health by enhancing identified protective factors and reducing risk factors for poor mental health in children. KidsMatter aims to achieve this by focusing on four key components: creating a positive school community; mental health promotion for students; parenting education and support; and early intervention for children who are at risk or experiencing mental health difficulties.

headspace is the new National Youth Mental Health Foundation, which aims to change the way that mental health and drug and alcohol services are delivered to young people aged 12 to 25 across Australia. With an emphasis on youth-friendly environments and improved accessibility, the primary goal of headspace is to improve outcomes in youth with emerging mental health and substance use problems via improved uptake and delivery of evidence-based interventions by service providers.
