About the Register

  • The primary aim of the Register is to offer registered psychologists who work in schools an opportunity for networking, peer support and professional development supervision.

  • The Register is not intended to be used by probationary school psychologists seeking supervision for the purpose of gaining registration as a psychologist. Probationary school psychologists will need to consult their own State / Territory Registration Board for the specific requirements needed for full registration and may instead use the online APS Find a Psychologist service to identify a potential supervisor.

  • Supervisors on the Register are experienced school psychologists who are members of the APS. They may charge a fee for supervision or may choose to offer the service pro-bono. Fees for supervision will be negotiated between the supervisor and supervisee.

  • Supervisor contact details are published on the APS website and are accessible by the public. This includes supervisors’ qualifications, College membership details, years of experience, preferred contact number and email address. The Register is updated regularly.

Eligibility Criteria for Inclusion as a Supervisor on the Register

The APS Register of Psychologists Offering Professional Development Supervision to School Psychologists is available only to those who meet the following criteria:

  • Honorary Fellow, Fellow, Member or Associate Member of the APS
  • Fully registered psychologist
  • Has at least two years experience supervising other school psychologists
  • Has had employment experience as a school psychologist
  • Resides in Australia

At this stage there is no fee for registering as a supervisor on the Register.

Important Information About Supervision Arrangements

The APS believes that supervision forms an important part of ensuring the competent delivery of school psychological services and contributes to the mental health of school psychologists themselves.

  • Where the staffing structures within an organisation do not allow for in-house supervision to occur (i.e., in-house supervision is not available), this register can be used by school psychologists to seek the services of a supervisor who has experience working as a school psychologist and who has at least two years experience supervising other school psychologists.

  • When private supervision arrangements are made, the APS strongly recommends that a supervision contract is established and should be made with the full support and agreement of the supervisee’s Principal or employer (refer to APS Guidelines for Supervision).

  • The APS suggests that any fees for supervision should be paid for by the supervisee’s employing organisation.

  • Some supervisors of school psychologists may provide a supervision service at the same time as being employed as school psychologists themselves. They may decide to offer supervision at the school where the supervisor or the supervisee works, or they may offer to provide supervision at a separate location. Alternatively, supervision may also be offered via telephone consultation or online. The APS suggests that unless an agreement has been made between the supervisor and their employer, supervisors’ independent supervision practice should remain separate from their employment duties and should occur as part of their own independent business arrangements in their own private time.

  • The APS suggests that supervisors have the minimum level of professional indemnity insurance that their State or Territory requires.

Search the Register for a supervisor

Supervisors on the Register are from across Australia, are all members of the APS, have experience working as school psychologists and have at least two years experience supervising other school psychologists. Supervisors are able to offer a range of supervision options including face-to-face, telephone, or web-based supervision. These options may be particularly helpful to our members who are working in remote locations or who have no access to a local supervisor. Please note that we are continually updating the Register as new supervisors join the list, so hopefully the Register will continue to grow as time goes on.
