Foundations of Suicide Prevention

The aim of this Suicide Prevention Professional Development Training is to equip health clinicians with foundational knowledge and skills which will assist them to work engage with people and populations at risk of suicide and serious self-harm. The course consists of four modules that address: understanding suicidality and the role of the clinician;  psycho-social risk assessment; crisis response and safety planning; clinicians self-care. Each module includes a printable learning guide, online video presentations, interactive activities, readings, and other relevant resources to enable demonstration of active professional development.

Upon completing this training course, health clinicians will be assisted to work under the PHN's Suicide Prevention Service. In this context, health workers can include psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, occupational therapists and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers.

Duration of enrolment

The course duration is 6 months from the date of your course registration.
