Suicide has long been recognised as an area of concern for mental health professionals. Despite many efforts over recent decades in Australia to prevent suicide, the rates concerningly continue to rise. Mental health professionals are often at the forefront of risk assessments and efforts to prevent suicide, but may not have had the opportunity to undertake evidence-based training to support their practice and help them feel confident. This series of webinars will assist the mental health professional to reflect on their current practice and become more aware of contemporary evidence-based approaches.

Overall learning outcomes of this webinar series:

  1. Increase understanding of contemporary evidence-based models of suicidality 
  2. Increase awareness of current approaches to suicide prevention, risk assessment and management of clients who present with suicidality.
  3. Increase knowledge about tailored approaches, resources and literature related to various client groups

Lyn O’Grady is a Community Psychologist with a particular interest in the mental health and wellbeing of children, young people and families. This interest has extended in recent times to understanding suicidality and she has recently completed a Master of Suicidology at Griffith University. Lyn has worked within the education, health and community sectors. She worked with parents in parenting programs, individually at the community level and in schools for over 20 years. Lyn also worked as a school psychologist in the Western Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. At a more systemic level, she currently works as the National Strategic Project Manager at the Australian Psychological Society. Lyn is also a registered supervisor of Psychology Interns.
