Online Learning FAQs

Below are some common questions regarding online learning courses offered by the APS Institute.

Go to the CPD and Events Finder.

You will see a list of courses under the online learning heading. Click on the course link and find the ‘register now’ button. This will direct you to complete an online registration form.

Before you register, please read the individual course description and related information carefully to ensure that the course you have selected is the right one for you. As part of the registration process, you will be asked to indicate that you agree to the Terms and Conditions for course registration. These Terms and Conditions include information about materials, copyright and the length of your registration period. Please read them carefully before completing your registration.

If you are an APS member, please ensure you use your existing membership login details.

If you are not an APS member but have registered previously for an online course, please use the login details that you originally registered for that course.

Avoid using multiple ID’s and passwords. This impedes our ability to keep accurate records on your progress.

You will receive an automated email with your receipt of payment. This email will also contain confirmation of the user ID and password required to access the course.

Here are some quick and easy steps to get you started on your course:

  • On the APS website, click on the ‘Log in’ button on the top right of the APS home page
  • Enter your supplied user ID and password
  • Locate the ‘Online Courses’ heading on the ‘Your Details Summary’ page
  • The course you have enrolled in has a ‘go to course now’ link activated
  • Click on this link to commence your course

Your computer and internet service must have the following:

Internet browsers

  • Recommended: Latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera. Alternatively you can also use: Internet Explorer version 9+, Safari 8+.

Internet connection

  • Broadband connection (512 Kbps or faster to ensure a smooth delivery of audio visual content).

Browsers settings

The following settings should be enabled:

  • Cookies
  • Javascript
  • Pop-ups

Resource viewing

  • An audio device such as speakers or headphones.

Course material is delivered via ‘pop-up’ windows. If you cannot view the course material despite clicking on the correct links, your browser may be blocking ‘pop-ups’.

A message at the top of your browser window with an option to ‘always allow pop-ups’ needs to be selected. Alternatively you can manually change your browser settings to manage this.

If you are unsure about how to allow 'pop-ups', please contact us and let us know which internet browser you are using. You will then be emailed detailed instructions on how to allow 'pop-ups'.

The most common reasons people experience problems when attempting to login are:

  • Details are entered incorrectly.
    • For example the UserID and/or password has picked up an extra space while selecting the text causing the login to fail
    • (Note: You UserID and password is automatically generated and emailed to you. Details received via the registration email is the correct information.)
  • Multiple accounts with different login details have been created and the incorrect one is being used
  • Access to the course has expired. Once registered, you will have six (6) months access to your course after which it will be closed.

The usual explanation is one of the following:

  • The network firewall is blocking access to videos. Some workplaces block access, for example, some Defence Force staff have to complete coursework from home
  • Bandwidth is inadequate to access the videos. Working from a location with better bandwidth is probably required to view videos.
  • Update your browser or use another browser (e.g. Explorer 9+, Safari 8+, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera)
  • Video clips play in a ‘pop-up’ windows. Allow ‘pop-up’ windows.
If you are continuing to experience issues viewing videos, please contact us. We will need to know the online course you are enrolled in, specific module video and which browser you are using.

As the module is delivered online, you will have access to all relevant materials 24 hours a day once you have successfully completed the registration process. The standard duration for your enrolment is six (6) months unless specified otherwise.
