Excellence in Private Practice

Event number: 19279
13 CPD hours
APS Institute CPD
Training Course

This unique business intensive training package aims to improve intervention and business effectiveness in private practice environments. The course will provide strategies and resources to achieve a high level of treatment effectiveness and practice management, and a capacity to compete in the increasingly regulated environment of psychology private practice.

The training package includes:

  • A 2-day face-to-face intensive training session
  • Free copy of a textbook on running an effective private practice (Fit to Practice: Everything you wanted to know about starting your own psychology practice in Australia but were afraid to ask)
  • 1-hour individual consultation with one of the presenters on your own private practice
  • Free access to measurement tools and data bases for monitoring and benchmarking
  • Opportunities to be involved in research activities around improving private practice outcomes

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Access relevant data bases for bench-marking, monitoring and improvement of client outcomes
  • Use client-data collected during sessions to improve client outcomes
  • Outline strategies to improve the performance of individual and/or teams of practitioners in the private practice
  • Write work policies and procedures to align with practice regulations and best-practice clinical governance
  • Outline strategies to prepare a private practice for future practice accreditation regulations

The training package is suitable for psychologists running a private practice with either a single clinician or multiple clinicians. Additionally, non-psychologists and non-private practice psychologists could find the sessions very useful. A practice manager who is not a practitioner or supervising others may find some of the applied ideas of limited interest. Given the intensive nature of this training, there will only be a limited number of training places available.
