Teaching and learning

A major focus of the DPRET Forum is the training of psychologists.

Beginning with psychology education in secondary schools, and continuing at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, DPRET Forum members aim to inform a wide range of teaching and training matters. These include

  • The psychology curriculum for secondary schools
  • Ensuring psychology graduates have relevant psychological literacy
  • Advocating for internationally benchmarked accreditation standards
  • Supporting culturally safe psychology education for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Embedding cultural safety and responsiveness across the psychology curriculum
  • Bridging from one area of practice to another and from general registration to area of practice
  • Supporting higher education research supervision

The DPRET Forum provides strategic direction and advocacy for matters related to the teaching and learning of psychology both at the secondary and tertiary levels by providing input into psychology education and training models, both for the current and future psychology workforce.

The DPRET Forum and the Teaching and Training the Working Group work closely with the APS Institute, Heads of Schools and Departments of Psychology (HODSPA), the APS Psychology Education Interest Group and a number of external organisations. The aim is to identify gaps in training, inform education policy and promote teaching and training opportunities such as webinars, workshops and conferences.
